Cake cutting song suggestions

The wedding cake cutting is one of the most beautiful moments of the wedding reception. Everybody is waiting to see the creation and the originality of the chef and the young couple. It’s among the oldest wedding reception customs. Its origins go back about 2000 years ago. Around 100 A.D., Romans baked a small cake made by wheat and salt in order to celebrate the wedding ceremony. The groom to be would eat part of it and the rest was breaked over his future bride’s head. For good luck, guests were trying to catch a portion of the cake to take home.

With the passage of time, the cake became larger and became almost impossible to break it over the bride. The custom slowly disappeared and emerged the idea of a sweeter and tastier cake for all the wedding guests. The origins of this new idea go back to the 1600s, when a French chef who came to visit King Charles II, decided to create his own elaborate sweet cake with many layers.

The cake cutting concept is supposed to symbolize the bride and groom’s new beginning together, as a family. The first piece of cake must be shared by the bride and the groom. Nowadays, with the development of the technology, cakes became fancy, elaborate and artistic masterpieces. Cakes can be multi-tier, single layer, castle cakes and the list continues. Usually the newlyweds want to be original. They discuss with the chef to find the best option and they decorate the cake according to their tastes. They use toppers, icing and flowers, both artificial and natural and bride and groom funny figurines.

Usually the entrance of the wedding cake is accompanied by special lights or fireworks to highlight the event. Don’t forget, your wedding cake must gel with the theme of the wedding and the table and restaurant decorations. Once you decided on the model of the cake, you must find an appropriate song for the big entrance.
