Some Catholic churches only allow classical or sacred music. Others allow popular music during the prelude, but not once the wedding ceremony begins. Some churches allow recorded music to be played, while others allow only live music. So, check first!

Let’s see below what are the most important criteria for choosing Catholic wedding music. You must know that the Catholic Church offers three criteria for liturgical music that can be applied to your choice of wedding ceremony music.
First one: the music should be prayerful because the Catholic liturgy is to glorify God and to sanctify his worshipers. Thus, the music should help people to pray and to thank God for your love. Some popular classic wedding marches taken from secular operas are often not allowed, because they are not prayerful enough.
Second one: the music should be accessible. The assembly must be able to sing along, to be part of the wedding music. By being active in your wedding ceremony, your friends and family can express their support for you and your spouse in a more significant way.
And now the third one: the music should be beautiful because beauty is a window onto the divine. This criterion depends on personal tastes and local culture. Music might have great potential if sung by the right musician.
You should find musicians before choosing the music for your wedding because musicians can help you choose the appropriate music or arrangement. Make sure that your band or musicians are able to play whatever you choose.
After finding a musician, start looking for songs, hymns and other music that matches your Catholic wedding. There is a wide range of nice liturgical music, including music especially written for weddings, that many parishes don’t use, but this doesn’t mean that they don’t allow it.

Here are some Catholic music arrangements that you should take into consideration:

A Bride’s Guide to Wedding Music
