Hawaiian Wedding Songs

Are you a fanatic lover of warm weather, sunny beaches and stunning landscapes and a nice wedding in the exotic Aloha spirit? Then the Hawaiian wedding fits your profile. Weddings in Hawaii are usually held outdoor, on the beach, in a tropical garden or even on a floating boat, in the middle of the ocean. It would be quite a pity to keep it indoor when Hawaiians have such awesome landscapes.

Pay attention to details and customs. Remember those famous hula dancers decorated with flower garlands? Well, a Hawaiian customary way to welcome someone is by presenting him or her one lei, which is a garland of flowers tied together and worn around the neck. Lei are also fit for high school and college graduations, birthdays and other celebration events. When the lei is no longer wearable, don’t throw it away, it is the symbol of love and it brings bad luck to throw it. The custom is to cut the string and cast the flowers into the ocean or to hang the lei somewhere inside the house.

In Hawaii, the first dance of the couple it is also a “money dance” called the pandango. It’s like the American dollar dance. As the newlyweds dance, the guests express their best wishes with a money gift. The dance continues until all guests wished the couple good luck.

These being said, now you need some ideas of popular traditional Hawaiian wedding music. Music is very important. Like Beethoven said: Music should strike fire from the heart of a man and bring tears from the eyes of a woman. You must know that Hawaii has a wide range of musical styles and instruments. The most popular Hawaiian instruments are the slack key, a regional guitar style, the ukulele and the steel guitar.
Here are the two of the most popular Hawaiian wedding songs that are played often in Hawaii weddings. Both songs were written by Charles E. King. The most popular is Ke Kali Nei Au or Waiting for You. The second one is the beautiful Hawaiian song, Lei Aloha, Lei Makamae meaning Forevermore.

Another popular Hawaiian wedding song is the one sung by the King of Rock and Roll himself. Hawaiian Wedding Song made popular by Elvis in the famous 1961 movie Blue Hawaii is usually sung at the wedding ceremony. This song was originally written by the same Charles E. King in 1926 for his operetta called Prince of Hawaii. In 1958, Al Hoffman and Dick Manning gave it its English version and title.

The song was covered by many artists in different versions. The biggest hit version of the song was recorded by Andy Williams who released as a single in 1959. The song reached to no. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Elvis sang the song to his bride at his own wedding. As a result, over five hundred Americans per year were married and most of them used Elvis famous song for their ceremony.
