The idea of the song was based on the 1938 anti-war book Johnny’s Got His Gun, about a soldier struggling to communicate after a bad bombing accident. 18 and Life by Skid Row
This is a power ballad written by the bass player Rachel Bolan and the guitarist Dave Sabo, after Dave read a newspaper article telling about an 18 year old boy sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his best friend with a gun he thought to be empty.
Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode
The song was inspired by the book called Elvis and Me written by Priscilla Presley. It was Depeche Mode first hit from the album Violator, being No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.
