Popular Wedding Dance Songs

When we say popular we think of something that people favors, in fact the term “popular” derives from the Latin ‘popularis’ which has to do with ‘populus’ – the Latin word for people. The same applies to the wedding music. Due to some aspects that weddings have in common, for instance the division of a wedding that is displayed in two sections – ceremony and reception, couples plan the unfolding of their wedding event with choices of songs that are to be found in many wedding celebrations. For instance, the moment which introduces the bride in the ceremony of a wedding is commonly known to display the sounds of “Here comes the bride” from Wagner’s “Wedding March”, this fact is due to the relation that exists between the moment itself and the title of the song.

Other wedding songs are favored due to the relevance they have incorporated in their lyrics and tunes, relevance to be shown also by the specific moment which is displayed in the atmosphere of the wedding. And in this way, there are songs that are most favored than others becoming in this way the popular wedding songs that are heard in the entertainment program of a wedding reception. These receptions are normally seen as parties and in their composition the presence of songs next to dancing is a must.

A wedding reception cannot be organized without having at least some musical moments to contain popular wedding dance songs. These musical moments are seen also as moments to offer the possibility of displaying songs to dance to, and in this respect we find: father daughter dance song, is the one that introduces the father of the bride dancing to a song that is relevant for a father/daughter relation, followed by mother son dance song, as the one to show mother of the groom dancing to a song chosen as the reflection of the relation existing between mother and her son.

The dance that is meant to ‘officially’ open the party is performed by bride and groom in the moment known as “first dance”. This moment reveals a song to dance to which is relevant for the newly weds, a song that is very emotional as long as it is supposed to reflect the feelings of the married couple, the feelings that brought them to the decision to tie their lives for ever in the holy act of a marriage.

Because of the similarities that the symbol of a dance carries within its performance, there are certain songs that have become in time popular wedding dance songs. Some examples are: “Nothing compares to you” – Sinnead O’Connor, “Power of love” – Jennifer Rush, “How deep is your love” – Bee Gees, “A wonderful world” – Louis Armstrong, “Baby mine” – Bette Midler, “Blessed” – Elton John, “A moment like this” – Leona Lewis and many more. Maybe the list of the popular wedding songs to dance to is the only one that reveals a wedding to be similar with the other, otherwise nothing else can indicate that a wedding celebration can be carried in a way that resembles to another wedding’s way of celebrating. And how can it be, since no wedding couple is similar to another, only love is the feeling that governs both the hearts of the couple and those of the musicians to compose the music that gives so inspired songs that appeal the same to the wedding couples in love?
