Soca Wedding Songs

Want something special for your wedding day? Try Soca music. Soca is a linguistic fusion of the word so from American soul and ca from calypso. It is Trinidad and Tobago’s genuine popular music, with a large amount of musical roots like no other music style.

The most representative and famous Soca song is “(Feelin’) Hot Hot Hot“, from 1982, performed by Arrow or Alphonsus Cassell, a top selling Soca song of all time having over 12 million copies sold. The original version of the song became an international hit and was covered by various artists worldwide, including David Johansen in his Buster Poindexter persona.

Beside its African roots Soca is also a development of the traditional Trinidadian calypso, gospel and parang music. Soca has been also influenced by many other music styles such as the 1960s black popular music such as soul, funk, electric blues, Hip Hop and rap, by the zouk from the French Caribbean islands and Jamaican reggae. There are also some strong elements from chutney music, a type of music popular that originated from Trinidad and Tobago’s large minority Asian Indians.
