Songs To Honor Your Deceased Parent On Your Wedding Day

Weddings are supposed to be joyous occasions. But what happens if you have a parent or other family member who has recently deceased? It is a little difficult to find a way to remember them without breaking the celebration.

It’s hard to lose a parent at any time, but it’s even more difficult if you lose him or her when you’re about to get married, since you’ve always imagined them as an important part of your big day. For example, in American tradition a daughter is to be walked by her father down the aisle to her new husband. What could be harder for a girl than losing her father knowing that the father-daughter connection is so deeper?

Even if your parent passed away, you can include him into your celebration by plenty of wonderful and appropriate ways. Mentioning and honoring your parent on your wedding day will be very touching.

If you don’t have any original idea, you might choose one of these meaningful honoring ways. You can read a passage of Scripture, a letter he sent to you as a child, or write a tribute to your dad or mom, a favorite poem, a little speech or anything similar about or for him or her. You can also ask your priest or officiant to mention your parent during the wedding ceremony.

Another way to honor your deceased parent is to keep an empty seat in the front next to your living parent or at the end of your wedding ceremony you can visit his/her grave after the ceremony and leave your wedding bouquet there.

Another nice and touching way to make your deceased parent present into your wedding program is by creating a slideshow of your best moments together. Music is another beautiful way to express your feelings. Ask your friends and family about the music they used in their weddings if they had such cases.

You also have here several song suggestions to honor your deceased parent. You can play one of these songs together with a slideshow or during your father-daughter mother-son moment.  Usually, during such a moment, the deceased parent is replaced by an uncle or aunt, by a best friend or a closer relative.

The next one on the list is a personal favorite so I’ll also include some amazing lyrics. The song is called A Dozen Red Roses by Tammy Graham.

“You’re in your room sleeping as I write these words/ I know you won’t read them till years from now/ God will call me home soon/ I’ll miss your wedding day/ So your mom will keep this note to send/ Together with a rose bouquet/ So take one of these roses to hold it in your hand/ And I will be beside you/ As Always, Love Dad”.

Another two special songs especially written for such unique situations are Mother’s Prayer From Heaven and Daddy’s Prayer From Heaven. You can find these two songs sung by the female vocalist Renee Lopez on the CD called Wedding Memories in Song by Charmed Life Music.
