Traditional Greek Songs for Your Wedding

As everybody knows, every culture has its own traditions and a unique way of celebrating life’s great events. People who have a Greek heritage are not an exception. Have you seen the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Then you probably know what I’m saying. There are a number of differences that you will find in Greek wedding traditions.

For example, the idea of a dowry is still a Greek tradition. The family of the bride spends several years collecting a lot of things from sheets to towels and other housekeeping items for the daughter’s wedding.

Another Greek tradition is the marriage request and engagement. The groom to be meets with the bride’s parents and asks for their daughter’s hand. If they accept, it’s time to choose the wedding day. This is a little different in Greek culture because couples are not allowed to marry on certain days of the year such as the Lent or the Christmas holidays.
During the ceremony, two crowns connected by a single strand of ribbon are placed on the bride’s and groom’s heads symbolizing the union of the couple. Greek weddings are accompanied by two significant dances. The Isaiah dance is performed by the bride and groom during the ceremony and the Kaslamantiano is danced in a circle during the wedding reception.

Greek wedding receptions are lively events with great dancing and music. Let’s see below a list of the most popular 10 Greek wedding songs:
