Parents in Italy are very instrumental in helping timid young people meet one another and get to know each other. First they verify the background of the person proposing to their son or daughter and then they take care of all marriage formalities. In some cases parents might even ask for the services of a matchmaker. The biggest responsibilities are always on the parents shoulders.
In verifying the background of the future son or daughter in law, parents check all relatives going back for several generations. Sometimes they even appeal to police records. Another unlimited and important resource is the local gossip at the neighborhood bar. If the background of the checked one is questionable this can mean a blackball.

Aristocratic or noble ancestry is always a sure way to increase the odds of a successful match. Speaking about music customs, the Italian wedding reception is full with music and dances. In some parts of the country, a party also called a Serenade is thrown by the groom outside of the bride’s home. Groom’s family and friends come and wait for the bride, entertaining themselves. Italian men often propose their future bride through music. The groom sings to his bride to be a romantic song or a ballad to further seduce her. After the song is sung, the party ends.
In every wedding party in Italy there are some singers that never fail, including Alberto Tozzi, Eros Ramazzotti, Laura Pausini, Gino Paoli, Claudio Baglioni and Andreea Bocelli. An Italian wedding reception is not complete without the Tarantella a wedding traditional circle dance, among the most famous Italian songs. If you don’t afford to have an Italian live singer or band, then here are some of the most popular Italian songs to consider: “Angelina”, “Ti Amo”, “Besame Mucho”, “Funiculi, Funicula”, ”Chitarra Romana”, “O Sole Mio”, “Non Dimenticar”, “That’s Amore”, “Mambo Italiano” and the famous “Volare”.
