If it is to define the music proper for a wedding the first thought will be about love songs, slow rhythm ones.
And after all these are the best ones to become the expression of the whole event since it is all about celebrating the love uniting the bride and groom. But it is not just about this music category as the reception is defined by a party.
Changing the style, music type is the variety grooms should think at for the guests to enjoy the time at this event. You cannot bore them with the same genre for the whole time of the party. But at the same time to keep the common theme of the songs the lyrics should target in a measure the same idea of love, marriage, unity. Can these be about any genre? Can wedding rock songs find a place as well in the play list? As a wedding etiquette no one imposes a certain play list. It is just the grooms’ preferences taken as coordinate for the songs selection. And so their personal style will set the wedding style too. If they like rock music in general why not these to be part of their wedding music too? With friends sharing the same pleasure it all comes for them as a common, normal and expected thing to happen.
But in a way think at the sound, at the rhythm of this music category. It seems that a wedding is on another wavelength. Plus that you may like rock music but at your wedding guests are of all types, of all ages and the party the grooms organize is dedicated to them too as without guests you have no wedding after all. Trying to please them will mean to find variety, to come with music of all categories so that stay limited with the wedding rock songs.
