Wedding Songs To Be Sung By A Loved One

Being selected as a bridesmaid for my best friend’s wedding was a responsibility that I must confess, made me nervous enough, especially for such an event that is loaded with emotional moments and symbols carried throughout the entire atmosphere of a wedding celebration. You can imagine how surprised I was to find my friend’s mother one day on my doorstep holding a CD in her hand, telling me that she had something important to talk to me about.

After showing her in I was cleared on the purpose of her visit. She was planning to have me sing at her daughter’s wedding reception. In regard to the music element of the wedding organization, she told me that they had hired a band to entertain the atmosphere, and beside the lead vocal, they had also arranged for me to sing wedding songs as a surprise element of the musical background. Well, surprise to them surprise to me, too, since I had nothing to do with music. Yes, I agree that I used to sing in the high school chorus, but it was ages since I had practiced my voice and with my friend’s wedding planning and all, there was no need to add something else to my excitement.

But, as it proved, nothing could make her mother change her mind; her reasoning for this idea was the fact that she knew how tight our friendship was and that I had always been considered the sister that her daughter never had in the family. Moreover, she was convinced that a wedding party is more colorful if it contained wedding songs to be sung by a loved one and in this respect I was the most appropriate to the occasion. I shyly thanked her for the beautiful thought and thus the introduction being over with, she handed me the CD that had some melodies to which I was supposed to add some lyrics of my own, lyrics that I could later insert in the proper songs and practice with the band.

She gave me the band’s telephone number and after a small chat she left saying that there were other things she needed to attend to. I was still under the effect of that surprising thing that I was supposed to think of, not knowing what was there for me to do first. Then I rushed to the CD player and had that CD played; three beautiful tunes started to flood the space of my living room and letting myself carried by their melodic flow I started to imagine the words that could turn into lyrics to match the rhythms.

I wanted the lyrics to represent at the same time my true and deep feelings I had inside while being involved in that long friendship, to show the love and understanding that had always been present in my mind and spirit whenever they were needed; I wanted the lyrics to deliver the emotions and good thoughts I had in regard to her wedding assuring her for my everlasting further support. After setting my mind clear on what the lyrics should stand for, I sat down put the earphones on and started writing the verses incorporating them in he melodic line of the tunes.

The result was great, as I was later praised, and I finally realized that if one is penetrated by the honesty of feelings, weddings songs to be sung by a loved one shouldn’t be a hard task to perform, in this way coming up with a unique gift to be presented for friends and family as well.
